2.  Influence health policy related to healthcare information technology at the international, national, state, local levels.
3.  Encourage the continued development, maintenance, and integration of ANA recognized nursing terminologies.
4.  Inform healthcare organizations of the need to capture standardized nursing data that expresses the presence and contribution of nursing, nursing research, and evidence based practice.

Envisioned Future:
In conjunction and in collaboration with the ANA’s strategic plan (2007-2008), CNPII will position itself to anticipate or identify environmental conditions related to information infrastructure within nursing practice. With the ANA, we realize the dynamic nature of the environment, and this committee will rapidly change its resource allocation to realize such opportunities and deter challenges through:

Mission Statement:
The CNPII seeks to ensure that clinical information systems include an interoperable infrastructure that permits the capture and exchange of data and information to clearly demonstrate the presence and value of nursing practice.

Educate nursing informatics constituency about CNPII role and services by presenting at key conferences and through publications.

  •   Create list of relevant and influential groups with whom CNPII needs to collaborate and/or hold membership (AACN, AONE, AMIA, AMIA NIWG, ANI,  NLN, TIGER etc) and include list of list of organizational membership within the CNPII group.

1.describe nature of desired collaboration for each.

2. create plan and initiate collaboration.

  • Present CNPII workshop at AMIA for November 2007.

  • Present workshop for pre-conference NI workshop at HIMSS, Spring 2008.
  • Develop “standard content” for CNPII members to present at applicable meetings. Content will focus on describing CNPII role and educating groups about differences in and appropriate use of each terminology and how use of terminologies will create a common vision for NI.

  • Identify potential candidates for nomination for appointments to the NCVHS, AHIC, CCHIT, HITSP.

  • Explore opportunities for other nurses/students to participate in committee activities.

Develop a cohesive model explaining how current terminologies and datasets are leading to an envisioned nursing information infrastructure that accurately reflects a “collective mind” (commonly embraced framework) for internal and external constituents.
Publish the components of a nursing information infrastructure and the model which explains current terminologies and datasets.

The goal is to reduce the fragmentation and increase the cohesiveness of nursing informatics efforts in the US.
Identify current mapping/cross-mapping  of SNTs and determine current status of such initiatives as a way to increase knowledge and understanding of each of the SNTs.

Will determine where such maps reside.
